metal grounding plate for VFD

The instructions in the VFD say to connect the shield on the motor cable to metal grounding plate. The Drive is mounted on a piece of machinery and is not in an enclosure. Would it be ok to connect the shield to the heat sink? What about the motor side of the cable.

The drive is TECO FM50 NEMA 4x The motor is on a 1/4hp.

These look like normal instructions for complying with CE requirements.

Almost every drive sold today has a grounding plate option primarily for use in Europe. Drives installed in control cabinets (i.e. Hoffman boxes) or connected with 'pipe and wire' do not usually require them.

The grounding plate usually connects directly to the heat sink of the drive.
