Above ceiling outlet

I have a receptacle installed above ceiling grid. It has a transformer plugged and screwed into industrial raised cover and receptacle. It is to power low voltage door prop alarm. Belden cable is landed on small transformer and ran into j-box 2" away. Inspector does not like?? Cannot find reference to this situation, any input?

Provided that you are not plugging a flexible cord into the receptacle there is no NEC violation.

I agree with Chris unless this space is Other Space Used for Environmental Air, if so the trans would have to be listed for that space or be in a metal enclosure.

I don't like that I'm not independently wealthy but the same as the fact that there is nothing I'll find in the NEC to help me, your inspector won't find anything to back up what he/she doesn't like about the receptacle above the ceiling either...:roll:

Is class 2 wiring allowable in your ceiling space? That is not the same as a "flexible cord"

Inspector-critter does not have to like it. He has to cite section of the Code if he wants to turn down the installation, like it or not.
