Conduit fill -- multi conductor cables

Good morning,


If I pulled one 4 pair cable through a conduit, could I fill the conduit to 53% (one cable inside conduit) or would it have to be filled up to 40% only (more than one conductor)?

Also, why is 2 cables only rated to 31%?

If you read note 9 to chapter 9 Tables it will tell you count the cable as one.

You said a 4-pair. Is this a data or voice cable? If so there is no fill requirement.

2 cables are rated at 31% due to the fact that when you only pull two cables in a coduit they tend to do a double helix.
