We have 5 MW steam drive turbines with collector rings. 6 brushes per ring. 12 total per tg. The brushes need to be changed every 1 to 2 months while the tg is running at 3600 RPM. The brushes have about 130 VDC on them. What should the crew be wearing for PPE other than 500 volt rubber gloves? Safety glasses and face shield???

You'll have to conduct a job safety analysis to determine if safety glasses and face shield are required.

You should also read into OSHA's hazardous energy control procedures to see if you are even permitted to work on the unit while it's still in operation. If someone could be injured by the machine then lock out/tag out should be in place for starters.

Tell us a bit more about the motor and task...

There should be an insulating tool for the removal of the brushes. Also, a common practice is to remove the ground detector prior to brush removal. Other normal safety equipment, safety glasses, hard hat, etc should be used. The brushes aren normally removed while the unit is spinning.

Much better to shut down the TG.
