Punch Downs

If you have 2000 separate runs of 4 pair cat 6 do you really have 8000 pairs so 16,000 "punch down pairs" if you punch down a pair at the jack and patch panel?

Can't comprehend the number..seems so high although the calculation is right....I assume

Yeah I would imagine the 4 pair tool is better. What would you say it takes to punch down a pair.... I watched a you tube video and between pulling back the jacket, shaping the wire etc. I would say about 5 minutes a psirb

Assuming that we're just just talking about terminating, not combing out the mass of cables and dressing them... should be under a minute- strip jacket (there's a tool for that), fan out pairs, untwist just enough and press into block, slam with tool. It's the time to dress everything in nicely and properly label each jacket that'll kill you.

For labeling, I like the Panduit self-laminating labels. You can get them in laser-printer sheets or on rolls. Start at http://www.panduit.com/Products/ProductOverviews/IdentificationandLabelingSystems/index.htm.

That is correct. Network wiring has become mind numbing grunt work when you get into systems that large. Not something I would want to subject myself to.

Do any of you guy's have the 4 pair punchdown tool and are you pleased with how it works? Just wondering if you get a good punch on all 4 pairs every time or if you have to punch down a second time occasionally.

I had one, a real WeCo tool, worked perfectly pretty much all the time. Even if one out of a hundred has a bad cut, you're still way ahead of the game compared to punching individual wires.
