I've decided to start studying for the electrical exam and was wondering whats a good way to study for it? I bought the 2011 code book and have the Electricians Exam Prep Guide. How should I tackle studying? What should I spend more time studying? Can anyone recomend a good study guide? Anyone in the Nashville area looking for a study partner? PM me please
Thanks for any help
John

Welcome to the forum and good luck studying. Click on the link on the left top of this page.
Some of the videos are filmed in class rooms with other students . Its a real good way to study . It's almost like sitting in a class room. With students asking questions , graphics, etc...

Also here it is http://www.mikeholt.com/

The Master Electrician I apprenticed under told me,"All the test is, is how to look stuff up in the code book."

I would recommend becoming familiar with the index and where information is found in the code. If you want to do this on the cheap you can read the "Stumped by the Code" articles in EC&M magazine and look up and read the code references.

If your are planning on taking the exam in Tennessee, you will need the 2005 code book. Even funnier than that, Tennessee is on the 2008 code but the test is given under the 2005. Check out Mike Holt's Electrical Exam Preparation book. I used it (2005 edition) to study for the LLE exam. It also includes the Journeyman's practice exam. I wouldn't read much in the 2011 code until you have taken the exam. There is some questions on the exam that would mess you up as they only apply to the 2005 and some of the 2011 codes are different.
