Order of magnitude estimate

What is this exactly? Thanks.
"An order-of-magnitude estimate of a variable whose precise value is unknown is an estimate rounded to the nearest power of ten.
For example, an order-of-magnitude estimate for a variable between about 3 billion and 30 billion (such as the human population of the Earth) is 10 billion. "

Thanks, I did google it and found some info but wanted feedback from the people here who might have actually done them before. THanks for the input though.

Estimates from pretty coarse to somewhat finer, all equally spaced on a log scale:

1, 100, 10,000, 1,000,000,. . .
1, 10, 100, 1000,. . . (order of magnitude)
1, 3, 10, 30,. . .
1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50,. . .

If you have 207 posts and I can only make sense out of 14 of them, how long till dinner is ready?
