Came across a situation today where in side a switchgear and b u generator room there are two side by side water or glycol pumps with in about 15 ' of the equipment, would this be a violation or at least a safety concern ?

Do fire pumps and their controllers need to be fed from a seperate service in an industrial plant?
These questions came up on a safety tour.
Thanks for the help with this in advance.

There is not a safety concern with the pumps in the area of the electrical equipment. The only code rules that apply would be the work space and dedicated equipment space rules in 110.26.

The requirements for the power supply are in NEC 695.3. There is no exceptions for industrial plants.

There are two good articles on fire pumps on EC&M

The NEAMA publication ICS 14 is also a good refernece

An electronic copy may be downloaded at no charge, or a hard copy purchased for $60.00 by visiting NEMA?s Web site at www.nema.org/stds/ics14.cfm

There are also two white papers at
