What are the different reasons that some plans call for cb and some are lug only on 3 phase panels with switch gear in same building Reason for question is i have done two TI jobs in same building one required 200 amp with cb. The other required 200 amp main lug only. TIA

One reason is economics. If you have a 200A panel feeder protected with a 200A ocpd, the panel is not required to have an mcb.

The flip side of that scenario is the desire for local disconnect overriding the economics.

Another reason for having an mcb when not required is ignorance of requirements...

This is a 2006 release from a major manufacture that really starts explaining it on page 2 & but really more on 3... but it's still just a glimpse to your question! IMO
