Dining room AFCI requirements

210.52B requires the dining room receptacles to be on the small appliance branch circuit. 210.12B requires dining room receptacles to be AFCI protected.
Am I reading this correctly and how are people dealing with this?

Yep, I just run a separate circuit to the dining room as I don't want the kitchen counter on AFCI

That is exactly what I would do as well.

If this job is in VA, the dining room does not need AFCI protection. VA amended the IRC (VCC) so that AFCI requirements stayed the same as 2005 NEC.
