Gloves on the shelf

It's my understanding that HV gloves sitting on the shelf are good for one year? Once open they have to be tested after 6 months?

Question if the glove on the shelf has a inpection sticker with a date on it, does the date take priority over the shelf life?

Example I have a glove sent out for testing and it come back to me in Jan with that inspection date, and I don't pull from the shelf until Oct... I'm within the 0ne year time span but if an inspector would look at the glove he would see it was last tested in Jan.

I guess we could track when we issues gloves but I doubt it would be kept up to date.

Wondering how others handle this?

The ANSI standard assumes, for the purpose of the standard, that gloves will store for a year from the day they're made to the day they're first use, for a year.

For all intents, this means you need to test them starting 6 months from the day you buy them - they're already 'lived' for six months in the parts distribution system.

IMO, the standard has a few imperfections. The biggest one is that it assumes the gloves will spend their entire lives in a switching yard in Chicago's industrial district - where there's enough ozone in the air to rot the wipers right off your car in nine months, and even your tires start to show cracks. This is in contrast to places like, say, Cottonfield, Arkansas ... where ten-year old cars still have the original wiper blades!

Just remember: it's your tail on the line- how much are you willing to chance?

Send all of your gloves out for testing on Jan 1st, issue a different color to everyone on Jan 1st. July 1st send out all the in use gloves and replace with the other color ones that were tested in Januray.

This way the different colors makes tracking easy, and you never exceed the 1 year or 6 month rule. Simple and effective.

the gloves that were tested on Jan 1st will need to be retested July 1st., gloves are due for retest every six or fewer months, depending on use. We use to test our gloves every 3 months whether they were used or not.
