Investment payback

For those of you that have invested in business other than our illustrious trade, what do you consider a fair payback for your $$? Percent of profit? Loan with set interest rate? Other (explain)?

A lawyer is being consulted by the borrower but at this point I can set the terms or at least suggest how I would like repaid. I do not expect a large profit share for several years but could be pleasantly suprised.

As with my 401K, I would just consider the money lost, until I saw something different.

I think mine is a 403(B)? , but yeah I do the same. I do not think I have opened a statement in 3 or 4 years. Too depressing.

Risk is loosing it all which, unless the wife suddenly decides she wants to know more about business, is neither a make or break investment.
