If the generator sits outside and has a belly tank (around 850 gals diesel), does any codes state how far the generator need to be away from building footprint/exterior wall? Looked at NFPA-110 and couldn't find any requirement. Thank you!

I think it's in the UBC.
Even so I would call the local fire martial. They usually have the sign off on fuel stored anywhere.
I have had valuable help on locating these things. They look at the fuel quanity, location and issues concerning refueling (Ie how doe's the truck get there et.)

Around here it is the State Fire Marshall's office. I believe 20' or 25' is the limit.

You can also get the generator supplied with a special fuel tank that is basically encased in 6" of concrete. Around here, that gets you out of the miminum separation distance.

Talked to Fire Marshal, 10 feet is minimum per NFPA-37. I have seen the generator stay within 5 feet from building at several places. Thank you.

In my area 20' from a transformer unless there is a concrete wall seperating, then it's 5'.
10' from building.
