I have never seen this "antenna" looking thing on the top of a telephone pole. HAs anyone ever sen this before?

That is not a lightning protection device so it must be some sort of communications device...

Tough to tell but some power companies use radio for remote control and telemetry.

Also, some Internet providers place antennas around for their customers. Seen it in Longmont, CO.

we have a couple similar to that--we use them to coordinate traffic signals with each other where a copper or fiber interconnect is impractical
