OK no smart comments about old age.

Plans show #2 wire fed by a 125 amp breaker. Total load of panel is 102 amps.

Code section that talks about being able to go upsize to the next standard size breaker?

#2 what ? (THHN, NM, SE ? )
Assuming THHN, you should be O.K. Normally you can terminate at the 75? rating, which for #2 is 115 amps. Next size up is 125. Load is less than 115.
(again assuming non-continuous or any other load that requires an adjustment factor)

NM or SE possible problem..

Sometimes working with the public and posting here makes me too cautious.... waiting on the other shoe to drop :D

With 99% of the scenerios there would be no problem with that arrangement.

Ain't that the truth. I usually get "so if I do it like you said it should be ok" and I follow that up with "If you do it like I said it should be ok, but I haven't seen it installed yet.":eek:
