I have reversed the blades in Roto-Splits before.

I worked in the oil patch for a while when I was younger. Hazing of newbies is pretty common there. Once a grizzled old tool pusher on a rig I was working on played his favorite joke on a new hand. He gave the guy a huge crescent wrench and told him to climb the derrick and tighten the nuts on the crown block bolts (these are assembled with hydraulic tools and would never become loosened). The newbie complied, but on the way he stopped by the tool shed and picked up a couple of spare nuts. When he came back down he told the pusher that the nuts weren't loose, but he found these lying around up there and couldn't tell where they had come from. The guys on the rig said they had no idea the pusher could climb a derrick that fast.

As to the beginning of this thread, it's not that the drill press was running backwards, but the fact that he had left hand drill bits

That would be to obvious on a hacksaw.

I just wondered because I was taught to install the blade to cut on the draw for cutting EMT 1' and under. It makes for a cleaner cut with more control over the saw.

And if you turn it around they cut on the pull stroke.

You may have less burrs if cutting on pull stroke, but most likely will not cut as fast on pull stroke unless you actually force a little more pressure onto the stock being cut while on the pull stroke.

Many of the greenhorns today are behind enough already. They don't need any "help".

I was always taught to install to cut on the push. I could never cut much with a backward blade.

Either way the blade's installed, I love the smell of cutting EMT - like the smell of napalm in the morning

Yeah, I know - other people remember the smell of paste and crayons and their blankie - for me it's sawed EMT
