Overloads

Is there a cewrtian size motor or certian application that a motor is used in that it requires overloads. I have seen it done both ways for compressors and fans. Sometimes they have overloads and sometimes they don't. Thanks in advance for you help...;

Most all continuous and intermediate duty motors need some type of overload protection. On smaller motors often it is built in, and in some case the branch circuit device will serve as the OL so the OL protection is not always separate or obvious.
You really need to look at Art 430, Part III as there are a lot of variables.
