determining circuit color

Whats a simple way to determine circuit color for a 3 phase system. ( blk red blue) SOmeone once showed me how but i have forgotten it.

Up to you unless your dealing with a hi-leg delta. (110.15) Things get a little complicated with more than one system. (210.5(C))

Most of the guys in our shop use the divide by six. It's easier than carrying around a pocket card cheat sheet IMO. I usually make up temp panel schedules on piece of notebook paper before I start pulling, so it's easy to label every third circuit black or brown, etc to keep you on track.

Yes it is the divide by 6, how exactly does it work...

Divide the circuit number by 6.

If the remainder is:

1 or 2 = A phase-Black

3 or 4 = B phase-Red

5 or 0 = C phase-Blue

I printed out a little card laminated it with packing tape and tape it inside my hard hat. Worked great. I did both 208 and 480 colors
