Outlet box in Split-Face CMU

If I installed outlet boxes flush with a split face CMU wall what is the best way to install the "In-Use" Cover? Since the block is not smooth water could potentially fall into the box. Does anyone have experience with this?
 
If you are around when the masons are working you can ask them to leave you a 1/4" mortar joint around your box.

If they are gone some delicate work with a tile bit in a roto-zip will give you a joint. Add some foam backer and caulk. There is some made by Quickcrete that matches grey mortar.
