hey guys , i havent been on here in so long that i forgot my password and user and had to start all over.

anyways i have a customer that is saying it is not code to have dead 18 guage thhn wire not capped off inside the raceway/ fixture. these were old 2x4 fluorescent master/slave fixtures before but now had kits installed in them and no longer need the master slave wires, because each fixture has a hot wire . what the guys did was cut the wires on both ends from the flex coming into the fixtures that were master/slave wired before and didnt put any wirenuts on them because they are not connected to anything. i am trying to find out what the code is for that and i am not having any luck. can anyone help?

to save some questions - i would be happy to go back and cap these wires but when there are 2000 off them to open , i really want to know what the code is. the inspector here doesnt have a clue.:slaphead:

I don't find anything in the code about abandoned conductors other than in Articles 640, 645, 725, 760, 770, 820, and 830. It might not be the best practice of not taping or capping them, but I don't think there is anything that says you are required to.

I would not open 2000 fixtures for that reason alone. If I replace ballast or lamps I might cap them off but that's it.
