very little to do with electrical work, but puts things in perspective.....

~Autocorrect is My Worst Enema.~
in seal beach, california, a gunman walked into a beauty salon, and shot and killed 8 people today,
and one is alive but critical.... one of them was a acquaintance of my wife, the salon is next door
to one of our favorite restraunts, and the shooter lived within walking distance of my house...

it's freaking nuts in huntington beach tonight.....

and three weeks ago, a 60' tall eucaliptus tree, 4' in diameter, fell in a freak accident, crushing a
car in costa mesa..... the car crushed had honked at me to pull forward, which i did, about a
minute before it fell on the car behind me, instead of on me, killing that driver instead of me.......

the moral of this? twofold:

first.... eat dessert first. you never know. you really don't.

second, we work in an intrinsically hazardous field. make
sure that the people in your life who matter to you, that
you are right with them, 'cause when you run out the door
all busy and everything, you really don't know how long
it will be before you see them again, and things happen.

and we all think we have plans... 2 year plans, 5 year plans,
whatever.....

we all have right now, and if things go well for us, we may
have a little bit more of right now, but all we really have is
right now.

enjoy the ride.

Well said.

It's a real coincidence that I just read your post. I just came back from a service call in the country and was thinking about only having the present moment on the drive to and from.
If someone is trying to tell me something I'm now listening.

GAME ON!

GAME ON!

My favorite story is about two men talking on ham radios. They have never met but talk frequently for radio checks and what not. One day one of them notices that the other had a happy note in his voice. When asked the gentleman said that the average male lives to be about 72 years of age. Which means there are 3744 Saturdays in your life. When he retired he figured out how many Saturdays he had left and put a corresponding number of marbles in a bottle. That day he had pulled the last marble out of the jug. After today, every day is a bonus.

Statistically, I have about 988 marbles left and looking forward to using up all of them. I frequently use that number to determine if I want to do something. Is this going to make me happy. Is it worth a marble.

When it's over have I made a difference in somebodies life, my community, have I helped someone to help themselves, have I given joy or forgiveness where needed. Have I acted honorably and graciously.

We wont know till I loose all my marbles.

"Live every day as if it were your last, and someday you will be right."

I, too, have had some close calls with the grim reaper and each time it made me look at life in a different perspective.

What's worse though, is being friends with folks that get flicked into the afterlife with literally no warning, here today, gone tomorrow.

I used to place such a high value on material things that I would kill to protect them and was well equipped to do so.

Now, not so much. I own nothing material that is worth taking a life over, and that was a hard learned lesson with some very close calls.

Now, mess with my kid or anyone in my family........

Stuff..... radios, cars, guns, motorcycles, tools and money are all replaceable.

Life isn't. Savor not only your own, but enjoy that of others.

To all us sparkys, think long and hard about putting yourself in harm's way to get a job done quicker or cheaper or just thinking you are doing the right thing by obeying your boss. You can get another job and another boss and back pay, but you can't get another hand, finger, arm......or another life.

Ham radio stories make K8MHZ all warm and fuzzy......

If you look at demographics, what percentage of the population has what problem, even very rare extremes score over 10% of the population which translates into tens of millions of people. So much stuff goes unreported.

It is the praying that keeps more of that from happening. Compare what does happen to what what could happen, entropy is the natural workspace of the universe, and the praying weighs heavily in the outcome. That and taking pride in battling nature.

Horror stories would make a pretty good thread
