ceiling grid support wires

In order to comply with sections 300.4, 300.11. 330.30, 725.31, and 725.24, if I install a down wire for supporting MC cable or communication cable instead of using ones already installed for support of the ceiling, is it required to identify the ones I install as being other than ceiling support, if yes, is there a color or procedure required.
Being new, I hope this is not outside the rules. Thanks

actually any bright color will do, we typically use yellow. or you can purchase caddy brackets to do the same thing I think the part # is EC311.
The best way and most economical is to paint all the wires on the floor the day before you plan to install them.and dont use that upside down marking paint it flakes off after install...

I noticed in the OP's profile that the install is under the 2008 NEC. That being said, unless it is a fire rated ceiling assembly, no marking or distinguishing is required.

p.s. Anyone who has worked construction for a length of time and has seen proper installation of ceiling grid should be able to easily distinguish ceiling support wires and added support wires. JMHO.

I just don't know if I'm three years older or three years out of cycle now!

I can only state that in NC we've been tagging independant wires for hanging years/now cycles ago...Or even better I thought it started as a building code issue, First...

Paint them, tape flag them, I've never seen the colored clips, but I will agree that the laymen wrap verses the
ceiling guys - it's no comparison.

Around the area I inspect in here in Ohio all the contractors tag or paint the wires (I did too while still doing installs). But, unless I am mistaken, it has not been a code requirement to identify support wires in a non-rated ceiling assembly until the 2011 code.
