Got dinged on a final insp today. I had single tamper proof receptacles in an unfinished portion of a basement. One for the sump, one for the condensate pump on the furnace, and one for a refrigerator. Easy fix, and I did learn something for future work. The funny thing is that I just had a house finaled in a municipality about 20 miles away 2 weeks ago and a similiar scenario and it was not an issue. And the one that it was a non issue at was done by an inspector who is very thorough and takes a considerable amount of time to do his inspections. Go figure.

GFCI protection is required so a single receptacle without GFCI protection is no longer code compliant.

Under current code (2008 and 2011) all receptacles in the un-finished portion of a basement must be GFCI protected unless they feed a fire alarm panel, I believe.
