I have a job coming up where I will go with a 5' piece of emt right above the meter panel and then transition to a full 10' stick of ridgid so the coupling is not near the roof.
Is that how you guys do the job or do you use all ridgid and thread the short piece?

NO! Use RMC the entire length, also, just buy a thread less connector if you don't own a pipe threader.

An EMT fitting nas straight threads, and will not properly seat in the panel hub.
