STUCK PLIERS??? old tip that really kicks ahhhs!

i had known about the comet Cleanser trick for stuck pliars for years now, and i know it works. but the other day after using my linemans to hit a chisel in an old wall my linemans were so hard to open i had to use all my strength. i figured i physically moved the metal somehow on the hinge and so they would never work again. but what the hell.... after at least HALF AN HOUR of pouring cleanser on it and water to get it inside, i was noticing that i was getting black substance out of the open side of the hinge so kept going and going and UNBELIEVABLY!! they are so loose now the handles just fall apart. i was so convinced that this trick wouldnt work that i already bought another pair!!! i'm just giddy i didn't have to fork over $44 at Platt for another set of Kliens!! (just half that for some Rhino brand, and they are just as good) yea!!:D

btw EVIL WHITE POWDER = SHEET ROCK (keep away from nose and linemans)

Someone had mentioned a long time ago I believe on this forum the best thing to free up rusted pliers or other moving parts is water. You need to eventually use WD 40 or other similar product to keep them from siezing up again, but water is best thing to free them up. I have found hot water - the hotter the better does do a lot of things.

I had a gun years ago that got left in a snowbank all winter and part of spring. It was like a solid hunk of rust when I found it. I soaked it in kerosene for about 5 days and all the rust came off. After just a bit of cleaning and some re-bluing, it was once again a workable gun.

Way back when, my HS printing instructor would use -hot- water to free up bits of the presses and the stitcher (removed from the equipment, of course). The water would wash out the gunk and because it was so hot, would evaporate quickly. After it was dry, add some of the proper lube oil and things were right.

Also, remember that WD40 is not a lubricant, it's design to remove water (WD stands for Water Displacement). You need to lube after using it.

valve grinding compound from auto parts store is better, make a paste, as they loosen keep working them under running water, finish with 3-in-one. learned this trick on this or another forum.

Look at your Klein linemans, there is a man on the pole on the pivot side.

An old timer told me long ago, never hit the man on the head. It will dent the pivot and make them hard to open.

WD40

WD40

When I was a kid I cleaned my carburetor with WD40. Loosened every screw and seal on it. It litterally came apart at the seams and fell off the intake manifold.
I worked with a kid that said to stick it in the sand and work the Kleins back and forth. Living in Florida sand is abundant. I then spray liberally with WD 40. Im too cheap to buy buffing compound or Ajax and have WD40 on the truck. Its also good for removing stains and marks on metal surfaces like garage doors or tar on white gutters. :ashamed1:
I like the coconut smell of WD40 too.

Blimey!
Enough jargon in there to to make me bleedin' mince pies water.
I'll try to get a translator me dog.
Meantime, I'll have a cuppa Rosie.
Or maybe I'll me weasel and wander down to the Nag's Head and get Brahms...followed by a Ruby...
And a few ripe raspberries.
That'll cause a right pen and ink.

:p:p

LOL! Fine examples of local colloquialisms.

Besoeker,
The Nag's Head must be the closest battlecruiser where you can sit with laptop and extract the Michael! Good humor from a ginger beer.

JEEZ! was i THAT bad? i re read and dint see butt one. thanks for the transfusion!

valve grinding compound would be great no doubt, but like where am i spozed to get that AutoZone? anyway i HAVE cleanser.

but DONT hit the man on the head! I'M thinkin that shoulda been sumpin they taught me in trade school!!! But then again, i think they gave me Crescent tools in school, and when i started workin this trade, everybody used Ideals. (New Jersey) There, i was told NOT to ever carry a hammer (industrial work) and that your linemans were your "Electricians Hammer". Sure loved those days and wish i'd never left Lighton electric (now Lighton Industries).

i am just bummed to find this cute little saying out NOW six years after i quit teaching at job corps. but then again, my students got Crescent tools too. Hardened cutters, which you need for kids who will try to cut anything they can get their hands on.

When I was 17 my universal joint was squeaking on my car. I decided to spray WD-40 on it. After all the grease ran out on the ground the squeak got louder and then the joint just busted and the driveshaft fell off. Guess it won't fix all squeaks.
