hi
Can someone explain to me how to do a tap on GEC conductor? example you have 3 parallel 500kcmil copper, what is the GEC copper conductor size and tap size?

see if I did this right

3*500= 1500 kcmils GEC is 3/0 copper ( table 250.66 over 1100)

How do you figure what size wire taps for copper? Thanks

Normally you only tap when you have more than one panel as service panels. In that case the gec is based on the service conductor for those panels. If you are tapping the conductor in order to terminate the wire easily then I would base it on the amp. of the gec then tap to the same amp with the amp of the other conductors.

You size GEC tap conductors to the largest conductor right? What if its pararrel, do you size with largest conductors of the pararrel or do you size it with the total area of the pararrel conductors?

Size to the totally area. Look at note #1 in T. 250.66
