Do you need to bond the neutral with a manual transfer switch for a portable generator.

Do you mean to bond the neutral together, or bond neutral to grounding.(no bonding of neutral to grounding in the MTS. if it's not service rated).

You have to have 1 extra pole in the manual transfer switch for switching the neutral when neutral and the ground bonded together at the generator, or make sure there is no bonding of neutral and grounding in the generator then neutrals are connected together in the MTS.

If the transfer switch transfers the neutral then you have an SDS and grounding/bonding is required at the generator, via the system bonding jumper.

If the transfer switch does not transfer the neutral then the grounding and bonding for the generator is done at the service, via the main bonding jumper.

IE where ever the bonding is done is where the neutral is grounded. Typically at the service but not always.
