Would it be wrong to allow 12-2 NM with a white outer sheeth :? It's right out of the box, it's just a little old. I don't think that this would be non compliant.

As long as it is NM-B you are good to go.

NM-B indicates 90 C conductors.

Unless it's really old and non "B" it should be OK. As I recall, the color is not a code issue but rather something the manufacturers started some years back. Seems like it was Southwire's idea.

The color of the outer jacket is not a code issue. I am somewhat surprised that an offshore supplier has not made 14 with a yellow jacket to help the cheats.
