code violation

My buddy came across this the other day. we can't decide if it's a code violation or not. what do you think? This is my first time trying to add a picture so hope it works.

Not a NEC violation, just a silly install. Shoulda used a Decora.

A gold touch plate dimmer would have been pretty classy looking there.

Wonder how many switches they broke off before the fix was made.

Maybe they intended for the door to act as a child-proof safety lock for the switch.
