Detached Structure

If I have a detached garage that is connected to the main house only with a roof, is this considered a separate structure? I just need to know if this garage needs its own panel with MCB.

If it is connected by a common roof it is not a seperate structure.

That can work against your goals also. If you want to feed it with a separate supply you can't because it is a single building, you have to put the service with the main house service and then run a feeder to garage, or both service at garage and feeder to house. If there is structurally a 2 hour separation between the two you can call them separate structures in most jurisdictions - but then you have limitiations on what you may or may not be able to run between them as you are introducing system from one structure into the other.
