Has anyone ever been rejected for having Rolex in physical contact with plastic sprinkler piping? The sprinkler guy says he just failed for this, because "NM sheathing is petroleum based and will compromise the sprinkler pipe." I think the inspector is nuts - opinions?

Once , I lost my Rolex in a 4" sprinkler pipe, and I was really upset, so I went and bought another one, only it cost twice as much as the first one I lost. :D

Sorry George, I just couldn't help myself.

The closest I've been to this is having a can light up against the orange plastic pipe they use. The installed said the plastic will melt. I told him to boil water in a paper cup over an open fire.

In your case, I would say the movement of the pipe and the can over time (caused by expantion and contraction, from heating and cooling) would rub a hole in the pipe. It may take 30 years but it can happen.

Almost all sprinkler heads are thermal...about the only static that could cause one to open would be a lightning strike.
