Hallway smoke

i have a smoke/co2 combo in a very small 3X6 hallway the heat from a gas wall heater sets it off.
Is there another kind of detector I can use? Not sure what kind it is.

You will need a combo Photoelectric/CO

Most common smokes are ionization type, and are sensitive to very small particle by products of burning fuel.

How do we know it's the 'fire' part that's sounding off?

When I added a Co detector, the 'plume' from the heater lighting up would trip the CO detector- not the smoke alarm.

In my case, I solved the problem by relocating the detector a foot or two to the side of the heater.

You also need to check with the town to make sure what is acceptable to them..

Here the building dept. sets the standard for smoke and CO detectors..

Good point, if your area requires CO detectors you best not be changing them to something else.
