what is the KVA value that I need to used in a house calculation for the follwoing:

a/c 3 ton unit.

heat pump 3 ton with 8kw backup heat.

No, all I got is these values from the mech guy.

I've heard 10 amps per ton thrown around but I don't know if that is anywhere near accurate.

if it is a single phase 208/240 volt unit an avg, of 7 amps per ton is usally very close for a cond. unit.

depends on manufacturer it varies a lot
Stickboy is right ask again, just be sure to ask for min. circuit amperage and max HACR breaker
