Without knowing the specs on the equipment (at least not yet, I hope), I'm wondering how I should wire up a bunch of gas heaters suspended from a canopy over a patio. I realize the load is very small because the power is for control and ignition, but maybe there is a small fan in the heater? Is this considered an appliance (under Article 422) since it takes electricity and is used for space conditioning, even though it's not electric heating?

If I combine multiple on one 20A circuit, do I only need to provide a local disconnecting means if the sum of the heaters' load is greater than 300VA, or is it if an individual heater on the circuit is greater than 300VA?

Are these normally hard-wired or cord and plug? I'm sorry I do not have the spec! Hopefully I will be provided with one...

Thanks,
amy

422.12 only requires a separate circuit for central heating units. I would not consider this central heat so calculate the load of the unit once you have the specs. I am sure you can hook a few of these on the same circuit.

Depends on your local.
usually a cheap lighting switch, mounted next to the unit, and run BX, or MC.

Normally the way its done here also.
IMO, it's hard to justify a cord and plug under 400.7
