Thanks, I'm just hoping we don't have to install an afci if we replace a bad switch with a good one.

Seems NC made one of the top states for having a business. Congrads!!!
Maybe they will accept the AFCI rules in entirety—seeing that business is going so well………..

We have accepted the NEC 2011 and there are no amendments to that section that I am aware of so we do accept it in its entirety.

BTW, the 2014 draft calls for afci in kitchens and laundry rooms-- Not sure what that will do with refrigerators and washing machines

Does any one know of any deletions? What change might effect us most? Etc...

If you are going to do an 8 hour code change class, you get the analysis of changes, if not you can simply get it on amazon.com. It's got all the revisions and deletions for the cycle.

Trip, in basement bar areas where a refrigerators are used, they must be AFCI protected, (as it is not a kitchen), we have had problems with them.

Also, in the draft I noticed that laundry areas are to be GFCI protected ....

have not told GC's this but I know their reaction:rant::thumbsdown:

So last I read on, In 2008 NCDOI.com the rewrite of requiring a hole drill in subflooring is not required,
One can still attach to the bottom of transverse members as opposed to drilling a hole.

Did they except this as an edit or not?

NCBEEC.org tell of date change.

They wrote the exception into 2008 then does it continually carry forward, as long as the wording doesn't change in 2011?

Why would you have too use an AFCI if you change a receptacle ?

210.12 (B) to a point,

406.4(D)(4) for the receptacles

(4) Arc-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection. Where a
receptacle outlet is supplied by a branch circuit that requires
arc-fault circuit interrupter protection as specified elsewhere
in this Code, a replacement receptacle at this outlet shall be
one of the following:
(1) A listed outlet branch circuit type arc-fault circuit inter-
rupter receptacle
(2) A receptacle protected by a listed outlet branch circuit
type arc-fault circuit interrupter type receptacle
(3) A receptacle protected by a listed combination type arc-
fault circuit interrupter type circuit breaker
This requirement becomes effective January 1.2014.

Note the 2014 effective date.

BTW, Found out how to copy and paste from secured .pdf's. I love OneNote now..

Well since you got us straight on an outlet. Now back to changing a switch. If you removed a single pole swich and replaced it with a single pole dimmer switch. Is that "modifying" a circuit? I don't have the 08 with me, I left it in Indy , hahaha. But any way does the 08 mention in 210.12 "modifying" a circuit. Also would changing a fuse panel to a breaker panel. Would that be modifying a circuit?

I know we talked about this when the 08 was adopted. I think this is a question that lots of folks are still wondering about.
And we would like to put it to rest once in for all for the 2011 book.
Thanks
