Found out my name is on the Electrical Permit for a project without my permission.

The problem I'm having, is that I never signed the permit application, my employer forged my signature. What should I do???

What state are you in? Have you pulled permits for the company before? Are you compensated for having your name on the permits / being the license holder ?

State: Wisconsin
Have you pulled permits for the company before: Nope.

I did sign some paperwork to install the temp service, but not the entire project. Suddenly, I no longer trust my employer of 23 years.

EMO time.

EMO time.

Don't lob grenades.
Get with your employer and ask what happened. Sounds like a misunderstanding which could turn into a profitable long term opportunity for you.
If you are not comfortable with the arrangement's make it known and ask for finite defined resolutions. This is business not a personal betrayal. When you agreed to put the temporary service on the site it might have triggered something you do not understand.
Find out what the consequences are and make a decision.

you've been working with this guy for a very long time. don't poop on that.
however, you say he forged your signature without your knowledge.
if he did that, you have a real problem.

i'd bet a cheeseburger that the temp service permit info got carried forward onto the main
project as it was expedient to do so, or it saved biz license fees, or something.

what was not ok was not to tell you.... is there a chance that it was a screw up with the city
issuing the permit, and they just carried the contractor of record forward at the same physical address?
is there a chance that he doesn't even know?

I agree with this and other opinions. Don't get bent out of shape until you can sit down with the employer and find out what happened. What has me wondering is, you say you worked there for 23 years and never pulled a permit before. Why now? What dose the company do that would have them ask you to pull permits?

The community where the project is requires the permit holder to also work on the project, or so I was told.

???:????? The company you work for. What do they do? Is it an electrical contracting company or what?? If it is an EC then if they pull the permit, then you or any other bona fide employee, could work on the project.

I have had to do this multiple times, some jurisdictions wants the license holder to come down and personally sign the permit, our company is so large, this ain't going to happen, getting the CEO down there to sign a permit for a $1000 dollar job is nuts! They do it to reduce the number of contractors "Farming" out their license. I'm with others, the city probably just transposed the licensing from the temp onto the permit.

Did they actually "forge" your signature or just list you as the master that would supervise this job.

To actually forge a signature is a serious offense. Just putting your name on a document is not the same thing.

Go to the permit office and have them run you off a copy of the permit application and see if your forged signature is on it.

A copy of the permit is posted in the job trailer, along with the rest of the permits for the project. Definitely forged.

WOoo HOoooOOOOoo!

WOoo HOoooOOOOoo!

Forgery is a crime and one of the few defences for invalidating a contract.
Lucky you, no problems just open ended options!
No liability, because it wasn't you if things go wrong.
Negotiate with the owner now for the next job. Right now it is a win win for both of you!
Ride that wave of success.
