On our E drawings it calls for a pendant hung fixture. The approved submittal for this fixture was a w/p 1'X4' fixture. So we hung it with (2) 3/8" allthreads from the ceiling. On our punch list it came up it needs to be pendant hung. NEC 314.23 H (2) says you cant have more than 12" on either side of the pendant, so that would not allow us to install a GRC down rod for mounting. What is the NEC definition of pendant light is my question.

Sounds like some terminology got lost in translation. IMO pendant hung means hanging on fixture stems or aircraft cable not rod but that is probably not written in stone. :)

Ya, thats the way I interpret it too. Problem is we have only one j box in the concrete above. So I was thinking pendant hung would just mean hung below ceiling by an approved means. I can't find anything in the NEC that states this would not be considered pendant hung.??? Thank you
