Hi everyone, can anyone help me out with this one? I need to do a load calculation on a water heater pump, 5.5 KW, maximum breaker size 60Amp, minimum Circuit Ampacity is 42A, Motor size is 230/1ph/single phase. Do I have to apply rule in 680.9 for Electric pool water heater to the Equipment name plate? Thank you !!!

Yes, rule 680.9 applies, but this is really something for the manufacturer to follow if they want this pool heater to be listed. It sounds like it complies -- the MCA is 42, and you'll put it on a breaker no larger than 60A (although a 50A would probably work fine). This meets the restrictions in 680.9 about sibdividing the load.

I believe you use the MCA * 240 in your calculation for load.

Thank you for the help Sr. here is more details for what I need to understand, I got a new residential project and the pool guy asked me for a load calculation on his pool equipment to submit it with his pool permit, I don't understand this request, because in the electrical plan the load calculation for the Dwelling unit is including the service equipment too. why a separate load for the pool equipment if all are in the house load?. please if someone have been passed through this please give an idea. Thank you !!

Not following exactly what you're saying. Are you saying you have a full Service load calculation which covers all the equipment in the house (and square footage, kitchen/laundry appliance circuits, etc) and the pool equipment? If so, that's the first step. Next, is there a feeder to the pool area which will be running just the pool equipment? If so, perhaps this is the load calculation he wants. If not, perhaps just take your Service load calc and highlight the pool equipment (either just the new permitted stuff or new and existing).

His permit may be priced by branch circuit or feeder size in amps. But I don't know your role -vs- the pool guy's role, what is being changed, and who is buying permits for what.

Yes, I have a full load calculation with cover all required in Dwellings, plus pool equipment. There is not a pool panel just branch circuits to pool Equipment, I will follow your suggestion and just take the service load calculation and highlight the pool equipment. This is something the pool company needed from the electrical contractor in order to obtain a permit to build the pool. Thank you
