What size NM wire would you run and why?

CAC..condenser a/c unit?
If so, can't answer this without the MCA from the nameplate.
A seer 10 would pull about 7.5 amps per ton.
A 13 about 7 amps.
Well, that may be a good round number but you still need the MCA to properly and safely size this circuit.
I'm going to run 4/2 nm.
I never get to see the nameplate until trim out.

Kind of like roughing in a kichen without a final cabinet plan and complete appliance specs, it usually does not end well.
Most 4 tons depending scroll or recp compressor will be 26 to 30 MCA. If you have model # or equipment brand I can probably give you the MCA.
I do know Goodman will be the brand.
I'd say #8CU would be more than adequate.
Package unit or split system?
For supplying two units? Remember NM cable is also sized per 60oC ampacity tables.
Depending on just what the nameplates of the units say 6 AWG may work, but could be close to being too small, with 125 feet of length 4 AWG may be a good idea for voltage drop purposes even if 6 is acceptable for ampacity reasons.
I say this without any calculations other than simple ones from memory, but I think is fairly accurate. I know 6AWG @ 60oC is only good for 55 amps, so if MCA of units is over 27.5 amps you need to look pretty carefully before selecting 6 AWG NM cable.

.
:You suggested 8 AWG would be fine, OP is asking about size of feeder supplying both units not an individual branch circuit.I was assuming they were two separate 4 ton units. That would put the MCA around 30A for each one.
