120vt power to the Lights on an elevator car are currently supplied by an old cloth type romex cable. The cable has a hot and a neutral. No ground. There is a 3rd standed wire that is not ground, but it is there to add strength to the cable. The cable is brought in under the car to feed the lights. This cable moves up and down in the shaft as the car moves. This cable needs to be flexible to let it move with the car.

What is the modern day type of cable for replacement?

Don't know about your location, but all the areas I'm licensed in if I even thought about touching, looking, riding, etc. an elevator there would be hell to pay.
