I would like to be able to split the bus on a panel and use the bottom section as generator backed up circuits. The reason that I'm looking into this is because a previous electrician didn't do his job and told the landlord that the one generator was more than adequate to handle the load from both sides of his duplex. This is not true and the owner has two existing automatic transfer switches that he would like to use. Of course this means that if I can't split the bus I will have to install an additional panel to segregate the circuits. The ATS has load monitoring and can drop out the AC unit and one additional load. Since I have AC, Stove, and Dryer circuits which could easily overload the generator, I think the easiest method would be to have an ATS/Panelboard combo unit for each side of the duplex tied to the generator. I'm trying to avoid a lot of additional labor on a brand new duplex that is completely finished. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?
