Is it required to provided dedicated transfer switches between the different emergency systems branches 700 vs 701 vs 702? I understand where it discusses the wiring and seperation reqruiemetns but cannot find where it states that dedicated transfer switches are required for non 517 type installations?

700.6(D) tells us you need at least two, in that the "emergency" transfer switch cannot supply "Legally Required Standby Loads" or "Normal Loads." I half expected to see a similar statement in 701, but I can't find it just at present.

Emergency vs Legally Required vs Optional

yes I could not find this in 701 or 702 either, however in 700 it requires the feeders to originate from dedicated switchboard sections or separate disconnects so I would assume with that you could have up to three transfer switches. It is also interesting that in 700 it talks about emergency system circuits for lighting but then for power indicates that equipment "classed as emergency" however who defines what equipment is "classed as emergency"?

700.5(D) :D.

Also look at 701.5(A) and 702.5. All NEC 2011.
