I don't even want to speculate which will cost more. If things go my way they will be competitively priced as compared to breakers and if anything help bring cost of either down.

If you have to use specific wiring methods on the supply side they likely will not be used too much except for the cases I brought up like for pushmatic, FPE, etc. panels where there is no AFCI breaker available, especially if they are in the same price range as the breakers.

I hope they have got the firm ware adjusted correctly.

What a hassle when we had to change to CFACI and the manufacturers were having to adjust the firm ware and then you some times would have to go back and replace the CAFCI with the revised replacements the manufacturer sent out

Is that like a gfci recep where the 15amp face device is 20 amp feedthrough? And most of the 20 amp devices I see will never have a 20 amp plug inserted, guy that bought device thought 20 amp sounded tougher or less prone to trip than 15? $4 difference.

The electricians know better, the home centers just make a little more profit from HO's that don't know any better, in their minds they still saved by not hiring a professional to install them.:happyyes:

Here is the response from my supplier on the new AFCI Recptacles

These are not yet available out of the factory they are telling me 4-6 week and it could be longer .

It is still pending whether or not these would replace the arc fault breakers or be compliant for the new code ,need to look into with tech support when they finalize this new product ..

The ?aftr2-w ----23.75 ea

You might want to tell them the new code has recognized that this product likely will be developed and has included allowances for the use of the product, it is just a matter of when will the product be available.

I think it is stupid to have a code for something that doesn't exist yet, but this is not the first time we have had an AFCI related code for a product that did not exist at the time code was published.:(
