I have an Italian motor, 3 phase, 265/460 volts.
Commerical building has 208Y.

Is there a buck boost to go to 265?, or will I have to go to 240, and then 460 ?

L-N/L-L?

L-N/L-L?

Sure sounds suspiciously like L-L (460) and as wye wound L-N (266) rating numbers... wierd. I'm curious enough to see a picture of the nameplate. Can you post it?

or would this be a single winding motor that you can hook up as delta or wye for the two voltages

That is a very odd voltage and I am not aware of any country that uses it is standard.

Italy formerly used 3 phase, 4 wire at 220/380 volt nominal, but is now officialy 3 phase 4 wire at 230/400 volts.

There used to be a few odd systems in Italy, but they virtually all featured 220 volts somwhere so as to permit of standard lamps and appliances being used.
Examples included single phase 3 wire at 220/440 volts. 3 phase, 3 wire delta at 220 volts. and three phase, 4 wire at 127/220 volts.

That is a typical EU dual voltage motor, but it would have originally been designed for 400Y230 50Hz, then they allow it to be connected to 460 at 60hz and because the V/Hz ratio is the same, it's fine. But if you connect it now to 230V 60Hz, the ratio is off so the motor will have significantly less torque and overload if the load remains the same, unless the motor was significantly over sized to begin with. Might be worth asking.

But you have 208V, not 230V, and the added loss of torque will make this a non-starter. So then yes, you will need a buck-boost transformer. You can get a chart from most of the xfmr mfrs that will guide you on how to get the exact voltage you want out of them.

For a supply voltage V and a motor current I,
motors that need high starting torque want a low (delta V/delta I) ratio and a transformer will raise this ratio
so for long motor life get the heaviest, best regulated BB 'frmr you can afford.

We are changing our 480 to 400 50hz to run a 100 small motors, most are 230 with a nuetral. What twist lock can I use? 277 3 wire or a 240 3 wire? The manufacture from Denmark told the owner he could not run the 50 hz on the 60hz system. thanmks bg
