Is it a code violation to supply 2 residence with 1 generator?

I have a one owner 2 house situation that the houses combined is less that 60KW. I want to use 2 service rated transfer switches and 1 60 KW gen for emergency power.
The vendor told me that that there is a neutral - bond issue and it is a violation to connect the gen-transfer switches in this arrangement?
Both houses are fed from the same transformer and I would set it up so that both would be either on normal or emergency power.

The POCO's supply thousands of homes from one generator:happyyes:

If stray neutral currents are a concern make them separately derived systems and transfer the neutral conductor also.

Yes I would agree. You would want the generator to be separately derived. I'm assuming that the houses have 120/240 volts services. Use a 3P transfer switch and make sure that the neutral is switched.

I guess he/she wanted to sell you another generator.

Following the lead of this forum, ask him/her for a code cite. The cops call this, "Running out the alibi."

If the two smaller units are small enough that they can be air cooled, they probably would rather sell one liquid cooled instead of two air cooled units. But chances are in this case both smaller units are large enough they have to be liquid cooled.

Also make sure that they are 2 wire start ATS's and the generator is compatible.
