2 Sizes of Service Conductor in One Run

Does code allow service conductors to change size along the run? For instance, can you come into a meter with 4/0 on the line side and leave the meter with 2/0 on the load side as long as 2/0 is large enough for the load?

Always been NEC allowable as far as I know.
