I believe you have your terminology confused. What are you trying to accomplish?

You may attempt to replace the compressor comntactors with soft starters, but compressor motors may have high starting current requirements and it could be tricky:

• You buy a chceap soft-starter and it won't have enough starting current to turn the motor over.
• You buy a more capable sift starter that can suply you with an initial current kick, but it is so high that it really did not solve your problem.

May need a hard start kit...long refrigerant line runs/high vertical lift, a compressor that is getting ready to give up the ghost, etc.
