Description- 9 meter pack unit, mounted on exterior of apartment building.
8 Apartments
16' of 4" Sch 40 PVC from Meter tap Box to Weatherhead

2 - 4/0 SEU AL cables in this 1 PVC riser

Electrician plans on using a 400Amp non-adjustable breaker on this service.


Anyone have valid, code referenced objections to this installation???

As petersonra mentioned, I would require a load calculation due keeping in mind the de-rated value of the (2) SEU cables.
Most likely the riser conduit is undersized for using (2) cable assemblies.
The location of the weatherhead looks like it will probably cause the service drop to be in violation of 230.9

With a single main the riser will have to be rated at least what the single main is set to.

It's going to be a snug fit in that conduit.
 
Why is the service mounted on wood instead of directly to the building? The whole job reeks of inexperience. I agree with Bob why se cable inside the conduit?

Not sure why the installer is using a SE cable assembly,
but if he does, it allows him to have less than 3 ft. of
clearance above the windows [ RE: Article 230.9(A),
`08 NEC ].

Also, unless those vertical wood strips/studs are
applied to the structural portion of the building, they
will be in violation of Section R703.7.4 in the `06
IRC & Section 1405.5; which directs you to Section
1405.6, in the `06 IBC.

What about the concrete stone planter in front of the service? It appears to me that it does not meet the requirements of section 110.26.

the dirt there is not equipment so you must think it qualifies as an "architectural appurtenance". I don't see how a flower bed is an architectural anything.
 
The flower bed (assuming the flower bed is less than 30" deep) is a violation of the work space rule in 110.26(A), not the equipment space rule that is in 110.26(F).

Is the PVC Pipe attached? I'm having trouble seeing it if it is.
I aggree about the wood, makes it look like a temp service.

Yes, it will violate 230.9. And the current overhead conductors are actually attached onto the building to the left of the new weatherhead, and strung across the building to the right and attached again on the building, then to the existing weatherhead.
