Generator Installation

Hello My Friends
I am schedule to meet with a client concerning the installation of a generator, I am aware of the main things to look for but any additional code :?:?:? information will be appreciated.

The things I will be looking for are.

(1) Size main and load demand which will determined the size of the generator
(2) The proposed location of the generator concerning noise and ventilation
(3) Location of ATS
(4) Should fire alarm system tied into generator
(5) Anunciator location to show if fuel is low and so on

Most important question in my opinion would be is it a true article 700 emergency generator or Article 701 / 702 installation.

Major differences in requirements and costs.

If you go with diesel make sure you plan for any EPA issues with fuel storage and exhaust.

In conjunction with what **iwire** mentioned, ...the actual
location of the generator install would be helpful; as well as,
the applicable NEC your are working under.....The EPA regs.
might not be an issue outide of the U.S.

Under the 2008 NEC, an article 702 application must be able to carry the entire connected load that is transferred.

The more load you shed the less generator you need.
You still have to use the calculated load of whatever you feed.

Are you rapping or just being a poet:p

I don't think it's required by the NEC or other reg's maybe for a nuke plant after the Japan disaster?

But knowing how small Grand Cayman is and how low lying the land is, I think I would put it up on stilts being that Grand Cayman is right in Hurricane ally, would kind of not make much sense to install a generator for Hurricanes only to have a storm surge to take it out?

Also, don't forget to elevate and secure the switchgear and fuel supply.

I didn't even realize how well those two lines went together till I read your comment. Guess I discovered a little bit of soul that I didn't even know was in me.

You do have to be able to carry the connected load if there is an ATS. 702.4 check it out.
That may not apply to the OP, but I think it is what mark32 was asking 'bout.
