Doing a residential laoad calc for new service. come up with 149 amps full load.

Inspector says you can only load 60% of service provided. so on a 200 amp service we could only have a load of 120 amps. I cannot find in the code where that is the case. am I missing something?

A 150 amp service is code compliant. Ask him where the 60% comes from. Peruse Informative Annex D
Examples
in the back of the book for examples.

Like Rob said, you could supply this calculated load with a 150 amp service. Sizing a service or feeder is not quite the same as a branch circuit, continuous and non continuous loading are already accounted for when using art 220 information, tables, etc. I could see your inspector being confused with application of an 80% factor but have no idea where he came up with 60%.
